Bone

Living tissue forming Skeleton.

Made of connective tissue: Cells, Fibres, Ground Substance

• 2 Types:
• Classes:
• Periosteum: Generates bone stem cells - Osteoblasts. → Form Osteocyte and Osteoclast. Rich Blood Supply. Repairs bone. Innervation from nerves of somatic nervous system for pain sensation. 2 LAYERS: Fibrous(outer), Cellular(inner).
• Cartilage: Similar to bone, May ossify and become bone. Soft tissue lines cartilage: Perichondrium.
• Perichondrium: 2 Layers:
  • Fibrous(outer) Maintained by Fibroblasts,
  • Cellular(inner) Chondrogenic layer - Chondroblasts and Chondrocytes

Bony Spaces

Surfaces of bones onto which: soft tissues, muscles, tendons and ligaments attach.

Fossae: Small spaces on surfaces.

Body Wall

Muscles: 3 Layers: Encircle cavity, names relate to location. Various slopes of obliquity.

Paranasal Sinuses as Cavities

• Hollow spaces within bones of head.

• Open into nasal cavity, Lined by 2 layers, Periosteum and Secretory Epithelium. Periosteum deep to Secretory Epi.

  Secretory Epithelium: Ciliated Pseudostratified Columnar with Goblet. Continuous to nasal cavity.
