Lower Motor Neurone

Defects will present with characteristic 'lower motor neurone signs'. 2 Sources of dysfunction may present with these.

Disease of the lower motor neurone itself, Disease/damage to the muscle tissue, that it is unable to be stimulated.

Pathologies

• Denervation of motor supply to skeletal muscle.
• Reinnervation of skeletal muscles as damaged nerves reform and reconnect. Recovering nerves may re-innervate a different effector to its original → Eg. Crocodile Tears Syndrome.
• LMN Cell Body
• Motor Neurone Disease
• LMN Axon
• LMN NMJ
• Muscle
